Medium Leather Diamond Long Stitch Blank Book

This is a medium, hand-crafted leather blank book, bound with a diamond long/link stitch and finished with a black snap closure and a very long flap that wraps completely around the book to help protect the pages inside. It uses unlined paper and lays flat—perfect for journaling or sketching, or even for use as a scrapbook or recipe book!

It has 168 pages (84 leaves) and measures approximately 4-1/2" wide, 5-3/4” tall, and about 1-1/4” deep at the spine. All of my books have my "Damselfly Books" stamp at the bottom of the last page.

Process

First I cut the cover out of a large roll of leather. This particular leather is mottled brown and black with a pronounced grain and a smooth feel, a medium-heavy weight, and a very stiff firmness. That combined with the full wrap-around makes for a very sturdy little book.

I created all of the signatures for the inside of the book from Mohawk Superfine 80-lb text paper (which is acid-free, archival, Forest Stewardship Council-certified, and made with wind power).

Next I sewed everything together using lightly waxed black Irish linen thread and a diamond long/link stitch that shows on the spine (which is mostly hidden when the book is closed).

Finally, I finished the closure of the book by wrapping around the natural long taper of the leather and snapping it to itself with a black snap.

While I try my best to keep the stock updated here, I am unable to go to the gallery every day to keep track of what has sold.
